Flew over on Saturday, got a hire car, stayed at a little b&b in the town, spent time at the viewing points, soaked up the atmosphere and had a few drinks in the sunshine. Then on Sunday hired a couple of these little beasts and had our first Nürburgring experience. It was intimidating and amazing and scary and awesome. All at the same time. Haha. I ABSOLUTELY loved it!!!

It would have been nice to take the Megane but it was such a great weekend flying out and having a chilled relaxed time in the sun at such a friendly and car obsessed place. But I’m sure the Megane will be there very soon.

We all loved it and are already planning to return asap.

  2. Its fun and terrifying in equal measures!
When you are doing 100+ and a GT3 goes past you, like you have stopped, its widens the eyes a tad!

We hired some pushbikes, and rode right round the track.
You are right next to it,
you can literally touch the cars coming by at warp speed..especially on closed test days.

I was suprised at how rural it is in the surrounding area..expected it to be a mad rush.

A magical..but dangerous place..especially in the wet,if you dont have your wits about you.
dont think i did one lap without at least 1 yellow flag for a crash or blow-up.

If you are remotely interested in cars, you must go at least once in your life!

  3. Totally agree, it’s a must go to place for anyone into cars.

There were several incidents whilst we were there. One of which needed an air ambulance. All very sobering stuff.

We agreed before we went that there would be no heroics. Steady safe and fun was all we wanted. It’s just not like a uk trackday where you learn the lines and then perfect it through the day getting better and faster. It’s just too big to learn it that well, the other cars around you are so fast, and the regular drivers are so familiar and confident. You just have to enjoy the experience and stay out of trouble. Which we all did I’m pleased to say.

An amazing weekend though. Really an unforgettable couple of days.

  4. we went the day after a 24 hour race.It can rain on one part of the circuit, and be bone dry elsewhere.
With all the rubber down, and a heavy shower..it was carnage.
    Just like driving on ice.
Arrived at a corner 80+ on a dry track..left the corner drifting on a wet one!
    Frightened me to death.

  5. I'm going for the first time 18th-20th May..

Should be a good time and hopefully I get back in one piece!

  6. It’s amazing. You’ll love it!

Take your time and just remember the whole insurance debacle with UK cars  That will keep you from going to hard lol

  8. Is the insurance arrangement different then for non uk cars?

Yep, For the majority of Euro countries anyway.

Loads of brits that are permanently out there or spend the season take their cars over and get it TUV/Registered so they can have the benefits of proper insurance but that can be a ball ache depending on what parts and you need to have a German address to insure it from.

TF is incredibly risky nowadays in UK cars and so many people dont even know or are ignorant to that fact.

  10. If you have an accident out there can they sue you for damages. I've seen YouTube videos of people spilling coolant and causing an aftermath of carnage behind them.

  11. It's an awesome place, this year will be my 10th annual trip..
Forget about any lap times just take it easy drive well with in your capabilities and your cars just enjoy.
The ring is located in the Eifel area which is awesome as are the roads with very little traffic..

  12. when we go we take a fluent german speaker, which helps immensely if problems arise.
Last 3 times we have gone, one of our party has blown a engine.
Same fkn car on 2 of those occasions..and hes the german speaker!

The problem is the car recovery to the UK..can be a utter nightmare.
First time he used a european firm ,which recovered his car straight to his door in the uk.
Second time,he used a uk service for his cover..who then refused to bring the car back, due to technicality's on his policy.
Cost him hundreds in storage fees before he got it sorted.

Funnily enough after the second time blow up, he has now broken his EK9 turbo civic,
    as he had had enough.
He has now just bought a lovely pearl white 265!

Just make sure you are covered before you travel..

  13. Going in a convoy of around 20 cars, all sorts of cars going.

Also I know my insurance won't cover me, but I do need to sort out some European breakdown cover.

  14. Wow I didn’t know this. Glad I didn’t go in the Megane now!

So there’s no insurance company who will insure you like they would on a uk trackday?

  15. Ah so what I’ve just read, on a tourist day it’s basically a public road so German insurance covers a German registered car. But uk insurance will exclude the Nürburgring, so for example my car would have no cover.

However on an official track day it’s now officially a track so I could get track day insurances cover as I would in the uk.

    Have I got that right?

  16. As far as I know even track day insurance from the UK won't cover you for the Nurburgring.

  17. Yes.
When I go I take out additional cover with Morris insurance....they can give some cover which is better than none, but its not fully comp....

I also have cover with ADAC which are the only recovery firm that can recover you directly from the ring. They will also repatriate your car back to the uk..
Thankfully I've not had to put any of the above to the test..
Ps. I dont think you can access ADAC on line from the uk..

  18. will find out about this..my german speaking mate used adac to recover his civic to the uk.
i think he filled the apllications out in german..but i will find out for sure.

You can not join ADAC now from the UK, changed either last or this year. Existing members can still get renewals though.

There are a couple of company's that claim to cover TF but they don't offer cover for the most important part, third party.

Cover is available on trackdays though
