I killed my discs. What next?

  1. So, what I thought was pad build up, turned out to be a couple of cracks in my grooved Brembos.

The question is, what next? Are plain discs every 5-6 trackdays the best way out of this issue?

I’m not going Godspeed as their bedding process is impossible to achieve on a track car.
The Reyland kit looks good, but I’m 50/50 on it actually fitting as I run a 17” wheel (pic below of me spacing my calliper out to where it would sit)

  2. Im sorry mate, but i think this is your fault.
As long as you are using Brembo HC disc's then the problem is how your using your brakes, i have never had issues like that, i presume from your account pic you are in a R26, if you are using standard 312mm brakes, it's worth upgrading to Mk3 discs and say Performance friction Z rated pads or even CL rc 8's. with a Mk3 Setup then Performance friction Z's
are more than adequate, or PBS Prorace even better.
The problem is too long on the brakes, you are building up too much heat, last second, smash the brake peddle.

For example, Kemal straight at Spa, 140 mph brake at about 80m for the right into the chicane.

  3. Apologies. It’s a 250.

I’ve never had an issue like this with the previous 6 years of Clio track driving I’ve done, using plain Brembos
My driving style/braking hasn’t changed - only the approach vmax.

  4. As its a mk3, then i suggest Carbon Lorraine RC8's, thats what i use in mine and Nathan is using them now after driving mine.

A Clio and a Mk3 are two totally different cars so you really can't compare them, so there is more weight, a faster approach to a corner, it's like comparing apples and pears.

  5. And what discs are you using with the CL’s?

  6. HC Brembo plain or grooved, if using grooved take the leading edge off of the grooves, there like cheese graters if you don't take them off, still work well but pads won't last long

    RS_Rowe likes this.
  7. I’m absolutely not buying the grooved ones again.
    But cheers!

  8. as long as you take the edges off of the grooves they good

  9. I just blew apart a DBA 4000 in a race yesterday.. To be fair, they have been on the car for 2 years, track only. 3 sets of ENDLESS ME22 pads.

  10. Good effort that!

  11. Well there not HC Brembo's and they have had some serious heat

  12. They certainly have. Will need to get some cooling sorted.

  13. I use plain Disks, and either DS1.11, or Winmax W5, and never had brake fade, warping, or any problems. My braking style is to wait until I am about to crash, stand hard on the brakes, get off brakes, do not linger. It probably helps that I am usually the slowest driver on track!.
